Florida has high divorce rate compared to other states

On Behalf of | Sep 23, 2016 | Divorce Mediation |

In a recent study on happiness that included a look at divorce rates, authors found that Florida was in the top three states for divorce. None of the states reached the level of divorce that occurs in the nation’s capital, though, which was stated as 31 percent.

That’s the bad news for Floridians. The good news is that with those findings, the authors of the study dispelled a common myth about marriage. It turns out that, despite divorce peaks in the 1970s and 1980s, the nation — and the state — is currently doing better at marriage. It turns out that one in two marriages isn’t necessarily going to end in divorce. In fact, the study author points out that the statistic for the nation is close to two-thirds of marriages not ending in divorce.

While that’s good news for those who are currently considering marriage or who are happy in their relationship now, it doesn’t change the fact that divorce rates will never be zero. There hasn’t been a time in recent history when that was true, because marriage still involves two people, and people change and make mistakes.

If you are involved in a relationship that is no longer working, then don’t let statistics guide you to stay put. Just because more people are making it in marriage doesn’t mean that you should force yours if it isn’t working. Not only can that make you miserable, depending on the situation, it could actually be dangerous for your mental or physical help.

Instead, reach out to a divorce lawyer to learn about your options. Once you get through this next major change in your life, you can consider how the stats are in favor of you finding love in a successful marriage again.
