Gary Oldman files for divorce number 4

On Behalf of | Jan 15, 2015 | High Asset Divorce |

Some Florida residents who follow celebrity marriage may be interested in Gary Oldman’s pending divorce from his fourth wife after a six-year marriage. The British screen and stage actor and star of ‘The Dark Knight Rises” was separated from Alexandra Edenborough for about a year before she filed on Jan. 9. Oldman has yet to respond to her filing, according to reports.

The couple married on Dec. 31, 2008, and the exact length of their separation was not provided, according to the divorce papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The marriage was childless, and irreconcilable differences was cited as the reason for divorce.

According to a representative for the actor, now 56, the difference in the couple’s age and interests was the reason the marriage did not work. Oldman’s wife, a 36-year-old British electronica and jazz singer, is asking for legal fees and spousal support, but the exact amount has yet to be announced. She said she has not yet decided what constitutes the couple’s separate and marital property as of the filing.

Oldman was previously married to actress Uma Thurman of ‘Kill Bill” fame and has three children by two other marriages. He said he was not prepared for marriage when he was young, and he hoped the marriage to Edenborough might be different.

California, unlike Florida, is a community property state. This means that the marital property is divided equally between the spouses. In a high asset divorce, this division may be complex, and an attorney’s assistance may be helpful.

The attorney may help a spouse in protecting their rights and obtaining what is lawfully theirs. An attorney may offer guidance throughout the divorce process and help resolve property and spousal support disputes.
