Alimony is a big question in some divorces

On Behalf of | Sep 19, 2015 | Alimony |

When you are in the middle of a divorce, one of the issues you may face is alimony. Whether you are expecting to receive it or pay it, it is an issue. This type of payment is defined as money that one spouse pays to the other for support during and after the separation process.

It can extend beyond the initial time period and usually requires the spouse that makes the higher paycheck to assist the other one to maintain some sort of equality to what they have been used to in the past. It doesn’t matter if you are the husband or wife, if it appears that you need to pay your spouse, you will.

Alimony, or spousal support, is the maintenance payment that is made from one spouse to the other after a divorce. It can come in a lump-sum amount or over a period of time that can last a short time (a matter of months) or over the lifetime of the receiving spouse. If the receiving spouse is seen by the court as not being able to earn a living, the amount may be significant.
