Write a rock-solid parenting plan with your ex-spouse

Getting a divorce doesn't mean that you are willing to give up your children. It means that you and your ex-spouse will need to work together to establish boundaries of what you both see happening in the parenting of these charges.

At Thompson Family Law, P.A. in Fort Myers, Florida, we are committed to seeing that you and your ex-spouse reach a parenting plan that is in the best interests of you and your children. Your kids are extremely important to you so they become important to us. Their emotions and lives must be treated with respect.

Children quickly become hurt and confused by hurtful words and actions that they may witness. Litigating the custody arrangement can be emotionally draining on everyone involved. Having someone by your side who can get the job done without a lot of fuss and arguing can be a good thing. Not only do we help you settle on a custody arrangement, we can even help you with the symptoms that your children display because of the upheaval of divorce.

We have done this for decades so we know how most toddlers or teens will react and can give you information on how to deal with this. Really, the best thing you can do is settle on a custody agreement with your spouse before it is presented in court. This cuts down on litigation and will benefit everyone in the end.

There is a public policy in Florida that encourages parents to share both the rights and the responsibilities of parenting. You may not want to have a relationship with your ex-spouse, but this doesn't mean throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

A parenting plan can be written up to be as detailed or as open as you both want it to be. Agreeing on such things as day-to-day care of the child, what each of your responsibilities are and even what religious training the child will have can be part of the plan.

Be informed. Do your homework and look at the Florida laws before contacting us; it will empower you and allow you to have a great amount of input into your plan.
