Collaborative divorce as an option in Florida

On Behalf of | Mar 18, 2015 | Divorce Mediation |

If you are preparing to divorce in Florida, you and your spouse may want to consider a collaborative divorce. In a collaborative process, you and your spouse will work together as a team focused on resolving all issues in a manner that is fair to both of you.

Collaborative divorce may help you resolve your divorce more quickly and with significantly less conflict. As opposed to litigating issues through the court process, a collaborative divorce may also save both you and your spouse significant legal expenses often involved with repeated court appearances.

A collaborative divorce is focused on reaching a settlement that everyone involved in the process can support. This alternative method allows you and your spouse to maintain control over the final outcome, rather than leaving it in the hands of a judge who will not be affected by the decree. At the outset, you and your spouse will each be expected to sign a contract agreeing to settle all of your divorce issues through collaboration rather than litigating them. If you fail to do so, your attorneys may withdraw and you may then proceed on through the court litigation process.

At the Thompson Family Law firm, our collaborative divorce attorneys are skilled at helping couples resolve their differences and reach agreements that are fair to both. We are focused on helping our clients complete their divorce cases quickly, with minimal disputes. We are skilled at facilitating agreements that allow each spouse to receive a fair settlement and to retain control over their own divorce orders, and we understand that many people are not familiar with collaborative divorce as an option. If you have questions, we have provided additional information about this alternative on our collaborative divorce page.
